What a Kakobuy order costs: the item, the freight, the markup inside the rate

Two bills, five kinds of charge and one margin you will not see on either. Figures are dated; Kakobuy's own pages show today's.

Every charge on the two bills

Kakobuy's help article on purchase fees adds four things to reach the total: goods cost, freight abroad, a packing charge and any value-added extras you choose. The commodity cost is the seller's price plus the seller's shipping to the warehouse. That is the first bill. The rest arrive on the second, when the parcel leaves.

Two small charges need care. Help article 74 adds ¥8 per parcel for packaging consumables. Help article 63 puts a parcel's customs declaration charge at RMB 8.00 in most cases. They are written in different articles, and neither says whether they are the same charge or two, so this page keeps them on separate lines and never totals them.

Several items from one seller, paid together in a single purchase order, share one domestic delivery charge. If the seller's parcel turns out heavier than expected, Kakobuy may ask for the shortfall.

A zero service fee and a margin inside the currency rate

Kakobuy's help centre frames it as a promise of free shopping agent service: no handling fee on a purchase beyond the goods and the shipping. An independent fee comparison in October 2026 recorded the same, a $0 service fee.

The same independent reading put Kakobuy's all-in currency markup at +8.5%, measured against the mid-market rate on October 8, 2026. So a basket worth 100 at the mid-market rate costs about 108.5 at Kakobuy's rate. That is how a no-fee agent earns, and it is the figure to compare across agents, not the fee column.

Paying in: PayPal, cards, Alipay, WeChat and their handling fees

PayPal top-ups accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB cards, are converted to US dollars, and carry a handling fee that Kakobuy writes three ways. Articles 64 and 99 state 3.5% + US$0.30. Article 65, which only the footer links to, states 2.9% + US$0.30. Inside article 65, a checkout screenshot calculates 3% of the amount + 0.01. Kakobuy dates none of the three, so budget for the highest.

Topping up by Alipay or WeChat Pay is fee-free; the money shows up anywhere from a minute to an hour later. Kakobuy also lists international cards and Wise. A top-up refund returns to the card or wallet it came from, minus the handling fee, and cannot be asked for until two days have passed.

Kakobuy's own quotes for one kilogram to three countries

Kakobuy's public estimator, asked on October 10, 2026 about 1,000 g of ordinary goods, returned these among its cheapest lines. Prices are in US dollars and move often.

United StatesCosmetics Air Express (Battery, Liquid)11 to 17 days$38.07
United StatesUSPS Tax-Free Line (Battery Accepted)7 to 13 days$39.28

Line names carry the rules: a line that says no batteries and no perfume will refuse the smartwatch and the fragrance picks. Other lines set floors, such as 2,000 g for two US express routes. Use the shipping fee estimator on kakobuy.com with your own weight before deciding.

Box size against the scale: the volume divisor

Lines bill whichever is larger: what the parcel weighs on the scale, or a volume figure worked out from its box. For the volume figure, multiply length by width by height of the box, all in centimetres, then divide the result by the divisor that line uses. Kakobuy names 5,000 as the usual one and says 6,000, 7,000 or 8,000 apply on some carriers; its UK lines show 8,000.

Bulky, light items lose most here: puffers, boxed sneakers, foam-front caps. Vacuum packing, dropping shoe boxes and pre-packing to learn the real figure are the three levers Kakobuy offers.

Storage: one hundred free days, then ¥10 per thirty

A normal item sits free of charge for 100 days, counted from the moment its status reads in storage, and Kakobuy emails a reminder ten days before the end. Packages the system cannot tie to an order, which Kakobuy calls abnormal, are kept 60 days from signed for. Past the deadline goods count as abandoned and are destroyed, and perishables are not covered beyond a month on the shelf.

An extension costs ¥10 per order per 30 days, added from the warehouse page with the order's OG number, with confirmation within a day. In June 2026 the same article had a different price (¥20 per 100 days); the October version is the one quoted here. One hundred days is enough to wait for a second order and ship both together.

Customs, duty-free lines and insurance

EU: a parcel now pays EU customs duty per product category inside it, a rule in force since July 1, 2026. Kakobuy's notice of June 23 says it will charge €3 per parcel whatever the number of categories, added at submission, and may withdraw that with notice. Its EU duty-free lines, per a July 1 notice, include the applicable taxes.

US: Kakobuy offers tax-free routes for US buyers, which its April 17, 2025 notice puts at roughly $5 to $10 per package above a standard USPS line. On lines that are not tax-free, clearance costs fall on you. Kakobuy's help centre also keeps a threshold table by country, but marks it as collected from the internet and for reference only, and its EU and UK figures predate the 2021 changes, so we do not repeat it.

Insurance: Kako Insurance is bought at submission and caps out at the shipping fee plus the goods value up to the insured amount. A late parcel earns back a fifth of what you paid for freight.
